Your dogs behaviour isn't only affecting their lifestyle. It's affecting yours! Puppy Preschool - OPEN REGISTRATION You're not just raising a puppy, you are raising the dog you want to have in the future No need to wait for a new start date. Class runs continuously and you can join as soon as you get your puppy. A puppies most impressionable time is between birth and 16 weeks of age. That is when they need to be exposed to as many sights, sounds, smells and stimuli as possible! But we're told to avoid dog parks, pet stores and high traffic areas until they are fully vaccinated, typically at 16 weeks, meaning we miss the critical imprinting period. Studies have now shown that dogs are more at risk of being euthanized because of behaviour problems linked to lack of socialization than they are of contracting a deadly disease before being fully vaccinated. While each option has it's pros and cons, we strongly believe that providing a safe environment for puppies socialization is the best solution. To ensure the safety of the puppies in the group, all puppies must be up to date on their vaccines (8-12-16 weeks) but are not required to be fully vaccinated. Class is open to puppies 8 weeks - 5 months. Puppy Preschool is full of socialization, fun activities, sensory games, relationship building exercises, house training tips, and a little bit of basic obedience +PLUS virtual training. Here is some great info about puppy socialization from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour. Classes run every Wednesday night from 5:45-6:45pm. Cost is $275+tax for 6 classes, open registration (You can join at any time! No start or end date, the class just keeps on going.) **ASK HOW TO GET PUPPY PRESCHOOL FOR FREE** Behaviour Programs Obedience is a form of control when we aren't sure how to communicate, let us help you reconnect with your dog. We all have this dream that when we get a dog we will have this harmonious lifestyle together. We can just hang out together, adventure together and that they will be the perfect fit for our family. Maybe that's not how things turned out... That's when we usually turn to obedience classes to learn how to control our dogs behaviour. At The Crate Escape, we believe that obedience is simply just that, control. We aren't saying that having control of your dog is a bad thing, it's not. But we know that you want a dog that can just BE! Not a dog that needs a sit, down or heel command. Contact us to learn more about the lifestyle you always dreamed of. *Next group starting May 1st, 2019* Rover Rehab Your dog isn't giving you a hard time, your dog is having a hard time. The truth is that aggression isn't just a bad behaviour. Aggression is an addiction. Addiction is a disease of brain reward, motivation and memory. It affects neurotransmission and interactions within the reward structures of the brain. It makes sense that all of the obedience training you've already done with your dog hasn't improved his aggression troubles. You probably have a dog who can hold a Down-Stay command like a champ, but as soon as he sees another dog, he loses his mind. You're left feeling frustrated and confused. You've tried everything! Why is he still doing this? WHY. Meanwhile your dog is feeling proud of himself. That happy tail is wagging, his sweet ears are perked up and he has a goofy grin on his face. The brain is pattern seeking and when he blew up at the dog walking past the house, he completed a pattern that has been established in his brain. Now that the pattern was completed, there was a release of dopamine and he is on a high, until he realizes how mad you are. BUT, no matter now mad you get, no matter what type of reward you offer or what type of punishment you give, his brain still needs to complete that pattern. That pattern is what makes aggression an addiction. The good news is addictions can be treated. Did you notice that we said treated and not cured? That's because there is no 28-day cure for addictions. There is no cure. Rehabilitation is the process of getting the problem under control. After rehab, lifelong management, maintenance and treatment are still necessary. How does this relate to you and your dog? Rover Rehab is a year long program involving integrated canine behaviour therapy. Just like rehab for an alcoholic does not involve sending them to a bar and then punishing them for taking a drink, rehab for a dog is not about punishing their mistakes either (yes, their mistakes will be addressed but simply punishing them won't resolve the problem.) Rehab is about providing a healthy environment that will allow the brain to create new thought patterns and build new neuropathways. It's a safe place to therapeutically work through problems and triggers and to learn a new skill set. Do you feel like home is rehab for your dog or is it the neigbourhood pub where your dog makes poor decisions? Rover Rehab gives you the ability to turn your home into the rehab your dog needs AND gives you the knowledge, skills and tools to be the therapist for your dog, to be the best you can be for your dog. Talk to us today to learn more about Rover Rehab. Here is just a little more information about addictions in people. It has some great information that you will find relevant to your dog. https://www.asam.org/resources/definition-of-addiction Please reload

TRAINING PROGRAMS Your dogs behaviour isn't only affecting their lifestyle. It's affecting yours! PUPPY PROGRAMS DOG PROGRAMS LEARN MORE *Have you stopped having friends and family visit because of how your dog behaves? *Do you wish you could take your dog with you to social activities? *Do you just want to live in harmony and enjoy life with your dog? When our dogs are poorly behaved, it impacts our daily lives in ways we never expected. And you are not alone! Start training today with our FREE DIY Wellness Plan for Behaviour Modification Obedience is a form of control when we are not sure how to communicate, when we are disconnected in some way. Yes, obedience is an important life skill for a dog, but we don’t teach it until we have taught communication first. Obedience is the equivalent of academics for people. We don’t judge the quality of a person on their academic achievements, we look at what kind of person they are. Are they kind and compassionate or are they mean and hurtful? Do they communicate well or are they short and/or abrasive? Are they patient and understanding or are they rude and pushy? Do they do things for the benefit of their families and community or are they self-centered? We judge our dogs on a similar set of principles. We do not teach obedience-only training programs. Check out our Temperament Assessment Chart to see where your dog is at today Click here for puppy training Follow the links to learn more about our training Behaviour Basics Behaviour Basics is the course we believe every dog owner needs. • The Crate Escape | Dog Adventures

One of the perks of being a Crate Escape member! Why choose our Adventure Hikes? Our Adventure Hikes are a great alternative to doggy daycare and dog walking, with an emphasis on healthy socialization and behaviour. Our team of hikers is lead by Canine Behaviourist, Vanessa Robert, and all our staff are trained to lead and maintain the same exceptional quality hikes. The benefits of The Crate Escape Dog Adventure Hikes include: *A fun filled day for your dog while you are at work, are away from home or just because you love your dog and want them to have good things! *Healthy socialization: not all socialization is good socialization. Having extensive behaviour training, our staff are equipped to create healthy and proper socialization experiences, including; appropriate play, appropriate communication, understanding and using social cues for communication, respectful boundaries and more. The dogs on our Adventure Hikes learn and practice healthy social interactions throughout their day with us * Obedience: Because we have no physical boundaries, we practice obedience to ensure a fun and safe day. *Choices! While our training does involve the boring old obedience skills of Sit, Down, and Come, it goes far beyond that. We believe in teaching each dog to make good and safe choices for themselves. We teach them manners, how to control their impulses, and how to control their emotions. *Physical freedom: freedom to run, jump, play, hike, sniff and explore. No pesky walls to slow down the zoomies. *Mental freedom: Most of the scuffles that happen in daycare are not caused by bad or aggressive dogs. They are usually caused by nervous or stressed dogs who feel they have no option between fight or flight. Because daycare space is often limited, many dogs feel "trapped" when their space is invaded by another dog and the end result is a fight. Because we have endless space, dogs feel that they do have a choice and are able to walk away when they feel uncomfortable. For that reason, adventure hikes are the perfect alternative for dogs who enjoy other dogs company but may not have been happy in kennels or daycare. Our hikes include pick-up and drop-off within the Vernon area. Meeting areas can be arranged for clients outside of the pick-up and drop-off zones. Our hikes are part of our exclusive membership program. Click here to learn more about our memberships! Adventure Hikes These are fun filled, 2 hour long hikes to tire your dog out. We have two groups per day, AM and PM. Your dog's group may be determined by your address as most of our groups are geographically located to minimize the dog's vehicle time. There are plenty of sights, sounds and smells to keep your dog mentally stimulated and plenty of other dogs to play with. Not all dogs are playful and for those who aren't, they usually trot along and do their own thing, sniffing and exploring. During the warmer months, we always hike to a water source to re-hydrate, cool off and sometimes go for a swim. In the winter, there is plenty of snow to play in. The Okanagan offers us so many beautiful places to play outside, there is no shortage of fun adventures for the dogs. Rates (Plus 5% GST) Subject to fuel surcharge Adventure Hike $30 or $300/10X Punch Pass Multi-Dog Family Rates - Save $5 per dog Hikes are currently full. New openings will be offered to current members, with priority given to those already attending Dog School (daycare). Only dogs level 1 & 2 will be accepted into Adventure Hikes. Some level 3 dogs may be invited to join the pack after some time spent learning new behaviours in Dog School. Click on the Temperament Assessment Chart to see what level your dog is! • The Crate Escape | Memberships

MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM Why a membership program? We offer a very unique approach to dog training, like nothing you've experienced before. It is important that our clients are as committed to their dogs training, socialization and overall enrichment as we are. We bring dogs directly into our homes with our families instead of kennelling. We allow dogs to have off-leash freedom on pack hikes. And we believe in teaching humans how to connect with their dogs by learning about their language and using communication first instead of control. The membership program also ensures that we are carefully selecting the dogs that get the freedoms and privileges of in-home boarding and off-leash hiking. How do I become a member? Past clients : Dogs who have previously boarded with us or have been a part of our Adventure Hike packs are invited to join our membership at any time. If we have not seen your dog in the last year, he or she may will be required to complete a Behaviour Assessment. *At the discretion of The Crate Escape staff. Please talk to us to discuss whether or not your dog needs to be evaluated. New Clients : New clients must complete Behaviour Basics prior to purchasing a membership. What is included in the membership? Some of our services are directly included in the membership while other services are add-ons that are available exclusively to members. Included in your membership are Pack Walks, Socialization classes (Socials) and Drop-In Training classes. Additional services available to members include In-home Boarding & Adventure Hikes. Members may also receive discounted offers to special events and programs. Members receive a discount to our Behaviour Basics course and a 15% discount for training tools, treats and toys at Pet Planet Vernon . Is training included in the membership? Training programs/packages are not included in the membership, but we invite members to join our Packwalks and Socials for training tips and tricks and as an opportunity to ask questions. If you are already a member and choose to enrol in training, you may be eligible for discounts. Can all membership dogs join Adventure Hikes? Only Level 1 & 2 dogs are eligible for our Adventure Hikes . Please review our Temperament Assessment Chart to see what level your dog is. Before your dog joins a pack, they will need to complete a Behaviour Assessment. See below for more details. What does a Behaviour Assessment entail? Behaviour Assessments are needed for new members who would like to have their dog join our Adventure Hikes. If you believe your dog is a Level 1 or Level 2, a FREE behaviour assessment is your first step. Because our boarding is directly in our homes with our staff and families, and our adventures hikes are off-leash, it is important that we ensure good behaviour, appropriate social interactions and basic obedience. The Behaviour Evaluation will assess: -Basic Obedience and ability to follow instructions. -Threshold Manners; doors, gates, vehicles. -Social type -Politeness towards humans -Politeness towards other dogs We do not expect perfection from your dog. We just need to make sure they meet our standards to ensure the safety of our current packs and other boarding dogs. All dogs will have areas of strength and areas of weakness and that's ok! We're happy to help your pup learn and grow through our pack activities. What if I have multiple dogs? Your membership applies to all household dogs but each household dog will require a Behaviour Assessment. Each dog's assessment will determine which services they are eligible for. For example if Fido is a Level 2 but Chewy is a Level 4, Fido will be eligible for Adventure Hikes and Chewy will not. Fido will be Level 2 Boarding price tier and Chewy will be Level 4 price tier. Both dogs will be allowed at Packwalks and Socials with an individual handler. What is the cost of a membership? The membership fee is $150/owner and is active for one year from the date of purchase. You will receive a renewal notice before expiry. Inquire about your membership today! • The Crate Escape | About us & our staff

Vanessa & Emily About us The Crate Escape team is passionate about dogs and their well-being! At The Crate Escape Dog Adventures, we are all trained in the RBBM method, Relationship Based Behaviour Modification from the Canine-Human Relationship Institute . This means that we have studied the language and culture of dogs and we use that understanding on a daily basis to interact with the dogs in our care. By having a higher level knowledge and understanding of our dogs and their behaviours, we are better able to communicate, build relationships and train with them. We offer dog training and behaviour modification programs , dog school (daycare), in-home boarding & daily adventure hikes with pick-up/drop-off services. But more importantly, we offer a safe and fun environment for dogs to exercise, socialize and learn. We believe in building relationships with dogs through fun adventures, training and play. By studying the canine language and behaviour, we are able to connect and communicate in a way that both human and dog can understand. We are also passionate about continuing education. Every year, we make it a priority to attend a seminar or training program as a team. **We are insured and are Canine First Aid certified** About Vanessa - Owner/Canine Behaviourist Vanessa has always loved dogs, and couldn't wait to get a dog of her own when she moved away from home. When she adopted her first dog Roxy, she quickly realized she had a lot to learn. Roxy came with behavioural and aggression issues and that was the beginning of Vanessa's dog training journey. Vanessa's passion for teaching started at a young age, working in summer camps, teaching swimming lessons and attending university in an Education program. During this time, she was rehabilitating Roxy and fostering rescue dogs which led her to the world of professional dog training. Vanessa spent a couple of years working for a professional dog training company, where she was able to develop her obedience training skills before opening The Crate Escape Dog Adventures in July of 2014. In 2017, Vanessa took her first Relationship Based Behaviour Modification (RBBM) course with Nelson Hodges of the Canine-Human Relationship Institute (CHRI) and it was life changing. Realizing that dogs are in constant communication with each other and with us, but not knowing the details of their language, Vanessa further pursued her education with the CHRI. Learning that we can communicate with our dogs without the use of obedience opened her eyes and mind to the use of canine communication and behaviour modification. Over the last few years of study and practice, Vanessa's dog training journey has flourished through experience with her daily packs, learning to read and understand the dogs language and behaviour. If we are ready to listen, dogs really are the best teachers. After completing the foundation Canine Behaviourist training with the CHRI, she has continued with her education and has moved forward into the CHRI Instructor's program, preparing to offer a higher level of training to other dog trainers and canine professionals. In addition to learning directly from the dogs and Nelson Hodges, she believes in continuing education by learning from other well respected professional trainers.
